What to Expect
Dental Filling
Most fillings are completed in a single visit. Here's exactly what happens at each step.
A dental filling restores a tooth damaged by decay back to its normal shape and function. At MDRN Dental Studio, we place composite (tooth-colored) resin fillings that bond directly to your tooth and match the surrounding enamel.
Your Appointments, Step by Step
Consultation
~30 minDr. Steven reviews your X-rays, examines the tooth, and confirms the diagnosis. He'll explain why the filling is recommended, what to expect during the procedure, and answer any questions you have. For small fillings discovered at a routine exam, this step may happen at the same appointment as the filling.
Filling Placement
30–60 minThe area is numbed with local anesthesia. Dr. Steven removes the decay, shapes the cavity, and places the composite (tooth-colored) resin in thin layers, curing each layer with a blue light. The filling is then shaped and polished so it blends seamlessly with the surrounding tooth. Most patients feel no pain during the procedure — only pressure.
Follow-Up (if needed)
10–15 minIf the bite feels slightly off or sensitivity is more than expected, a brief adjustment visit resolves it quickly. Most patients do not need this step.
What to Know Before You Come In
- Eat normally beforehand — there are no dietary restrictions before a filling
- The numbing injection is the only moment of discomfort; the filling itself is painless
- Numbness lasts 2–4 hours after the appointment — avoid eating on that side until feeling returns
- You can drive yourself to and from the appointment — no sedation is required for a standard filling
- Bring your insurance card and any completed new-patient forms if this is your first visit
