MDRN Dental Studio is adding air polishing to our preventive and periodontal maintenance visits. It uses a controlled stream of air, water, and fine dental powder to break up sticky bacterial biofilm and lift many surface stains. We like it for grooves, tight spaces, and areas around certain restorations or appliances where a traditional polish can be less thorough.

Benefits
Air polishing does not replace the exam, X-rays when needed, periodontal measurements, or tartar removal. It gives our team another way to remove biofilm and stain while keeping the appointment comfortable.
The air, water, and powder stream can clean grooves, spaces between teeth, and areas around dental work more easily than a rubber cup polish alone.
Coffee, tea, wine, and normal daily habits can leave stain on the outside of teeth. Air polishing can remove many of those surface stains, so teeth feel smoother and cleaner.
Many patients like air polishing because it feels less "scrubby" than a traditional rubber cup polish. If an area is sensitive, we can adjust or avoid that spot.
For patients who are keeping gum disease stable, removing sticky bacterial biofilm is a big part of the appointment. Air polishing gives the hygienist another way to do that carefully.
When appropriate, air polishing may help clean around orthodontic retainers, clear aligner attachments, implant restorations, crowns, bridges, and bonding margins.
Air polishing does not replace diagnosis, scaling, or periodontal therapy. It is one more tool the hygienist can use during the right type of cleaning visit.
How It Works
During the right cleaning or maintenance visit, the hygienist directs the air polishing stream across selected tooth surfaces to break up biofilm and remove surface stain. If tartar is present, scaling is still needed because tartar is hardened buildup that cannot be brushed or polished away. Dr. Steven and our hygiene team choose the right mix of instruments based on your gum health, buildup, sensitivity, restorations, and goals for the visit.

If gum infection, deeper periodontal pockets, or heavy tartar are present, the priority is still diagnosis and the correct periodontal treatment. Air polishing can support cleaner surfaces, but it does not replace gum infection therapy, periodontal maintenance, or dentist-directed care.
