Post-Op Instructions
After Your Porcelain Veneers
Your new veneers are bonded into place. Over the next few days you will adjust to how they feel, and your bite will settle into its new position — this is completely normal.

1 Sensitivity — What to Expect
Some sensitivity to cold is normal for the first few days to a few weeks as your teeth settle.
Sensitivity toothpaste (like Sensodyne) used twice a day can help. Most patients are completely comfortable within a month.
If sensitivity gets worse over time or wakes you at night, please call us.
2 Bite and Comfort
Your bite should feel natural within a few hours. If your veneers feel "high" or like you are hitting them first, please call us. A short adjustment visit fixes it quickly.
An unadjusted bite can lead to headaches, jaw soreness, or chipped veneers over time — there is no reason to live with it.
Some minor tongue or lip awareness of the new edges for the first day or two is normal as you adjust.
3 Eating and Drinking
You can eat and drink normally. Veneers are strong, but they are not unbreakable.
- Avoid biting directly into hard items: ice, hard candy, pens, fingernails
- Avoid using your teeth as tools to open packages or tear tape
- Coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco can stain the bonding edges over time — rinsing with water after these helps protect the seal
4 Brushing and Flossing
Brush twice a day and floss daily, just like with natural teeth.
Use a non-abrasive toothpaste to keep the veneers looking polished. Avoid whitening toothpastes, which can dull the surface over time.
A soft-bristled toothbrush protects both the veneers and your gum tissue.
5 If You Grind or Clench
If you grind or clench at night, wearing a custom night guard is essential. Grinding without protection is the number one cause of veneer damage.
We will fit you for a night guard if you do not already have one. It is a small investment to protect a much bigger one.
6 Long-Term Care
With good care, veneers maintain their look and luster for many years. See us for regular cleanings — we use polishing tools that are safe for veneers and will check the bonding at every visit.
Some minor adjustments or refinements over the years are normal. Veneers eventually need to be replaced, but with proper care that is many years away.
